Drill a hole in the bottom of all 50 cups 3/8” – ½” wide. (I used 7/16”). Several can be drilled at the same time. Test to see if the lights will fit. They need to be very snug.
Drill or punch 2 holes in 42 cups. Just under the lip and across from each other. The remaining 8 cups need holes drilled or punched closer together, around 12 and 3 O’Clock.
Using 12 cups with holes across from each other, arrange in a circle, on side, and open side out. Fasten together with cable ties. Important: Do not tighten cable ties yet.
(You have made layer 1)
Using 9 cups with holes across from each other arrange in a circle, same as in layer 1. Fasten with cable ties. Do not tighten. (You have made layer 2)
Using 4 cups with holes that are closer together stand these next to each other then with the holes facing each other, attach with cable ties. Do not tighten.
(You have made layer 3).
Using clothespins to hold cups in place, lie layer 2 on top of layer 1. Drill or punch holes between layers and attach with cable ties. Do not tighten.
Put layer 3 inside layer 2. Drill or punch holes between layers and attach with cable ties. Do not tighten.
(This is half of your sparkle ball)
Repeat the last two steps to make the other half of sparkle ball.
Important: test lights before inserting.
Set the 2 halves upside down next to each other. Starting from the center of the first half insert 2 lights in each cup. Work your way to the outside layer. Then insert the rest of your lights on the other half starting on the outside layer working in. When finished make sure plug is on the outside of the cups.
Attach the two halves together with clothespins. Drill or punch holes to connect with cable ties. Again, make sure plug in on the outside of cups.
Evenly tighten all cable ties to form a ball. Trim cable ties. Use strong rope, wire or chain to hang your finished ball.
